An undergraduate degree in English Language and working with adults and children in care and education settings led me to Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) as a career. After qualifying as an SLT from the University of Newcastle over 20 years ago, I worked in Glasgow as a Community Paediatric SLT for 14 years. My clinical interests were in speech sound disorders, dysfluency, and working with children from multilingual backgrounds.Â
Alongside my clinical work, I supported students on placements as a Clinical Tutor at the University of Strathclyde for 8 years, delivered teaching and learning and became involved in research in 2015.Â
In 2019, I joined the lecturing staff and placement team here at QMU and became a Fellow of Advance HE in 2024.

My research interests have largely concerned speech sound disorders. I supervise Undergraduate and Postgraduate projects on a range of topics, including adapting the PPSA to languages other than English.
My teaching interests have been in speech sound disorders, lifespan development, and professional practice development on the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. I am a member of the clinical placement team and share responsibility for supporting students in their clinical skills development, as well as SLTs in their role as Practice Educators.
